I'm African American and 17, too! I only buy products from the drutstore, so I think I can help you.

Makeup is all about trial and error, so what works for me may not work for you. But these are some basic items that a person just starting to use makeup will probably need:

Eyeliner: Every girl's best friend. There are many different kinds, but my favorite is Revlon Colorstay eyeliner. It's a roll out pencil that you don't have to sharpen, and it's waterproof, so it will stay on all day. Try applying a thin line on your upper lash line, and then lining half of your lower lash line. This will make your eyes look larger and will be very natural looking. :) It costs about $7, depending on where you get it.

Mascara: My favorite is Cover Girl Lash Blast, which is about $8, and costs even less when it's on sale, which is most of the time at my drugstores. It'll give you long, thick looking lashes and last all day.

Concealer: If you don't need foundation for cover up, don't use it. Just stick with concealer and dot it onto any minor blemishes you have. You can apply and then blend it with a makeup sponge or your fingers. I recommend Covergirl TruConceal. Also, remember that your concealer should be three shades lighter than your skin tone to balance out the darkness of the blemishes. :) I'm pretty sure I got it for $8 or so. Possibly less.

Eye Shadow: Start off with simple, natural looking colors. Browns and purples look lovely on dark skin. Cover Girl has an amazing eye shadow quad called Coffee Shop that has a lot of brown/coppery colors that look really pretty. It's great for a beginner, and is good for an everyday look. These are also extremely affordable at only $5 or so. On sale, they cost next to nothing.

That's all you need to start off with, in my opinion. I hope the products I recommended work well for you. :)Help; make up advice.?
If your skin is immicaculate then you won't need it but that's very rare-foundation. You do need to go and get a good quality one. You can get away with any old mascara/eyeshadow/lipgloss as long as foundations good!! I like benefit make up (especially blush and eyeliner) however this is quite expensive.
you should go to www.pursebuzz.com because it has great makeup and hair advice and demonstrations ! hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!
